Spring Renewal: What to Refresh in Your Interior as the First Sunny Days Arrive
The beginning of March has always felt like a quiet new beginning. It is a change we notice most clearly when the first rays of sunlight appear through our windows. Suddenly, they reveal what winter had hidden from us — a thin layer of dust on the shelves, heavy curtains absorbing the light, or simply a room that has become a little too dense after long evenings indoors.
As a designer, I see spring not as a time for renovation but as a moment of refinement, when we allow our homes to breathe again and invite back a sense of freshness and lightness.
Window Transformation
The first step I always recommend begins with the windows. During winter, we instinctively seek warmth, surrounding ourselves with thick fabrics that protect us from the cold. Yet the March sun asks for a different approach. One of the simplest ways to instantly transform the atmosphere of a room is to replace heavy curtains with light, semi-transparent linen or batiste drapery. These fabrics do not block natural light; instead, they soften it, allowing it to spread gently throughout the room and create a sense of calm comfort.
At this time of year, the window becomes not a barrier but a connection to nature as it awakens outside, which is why clean lines and lightness are essential.
Textures and Fabrics
When designing interiors, I often work with the principle of layering. In spring, however, we gradually begin to remove those layers. Thick wool throws, fur accents and deep velvet cushions can start to feel overly heavy by March. In both my own home and my projects, I introduce more linen, cotton and silk during this period. These materials are not only pleasant to the touch but visually “cool” the space as well. And by replacing just a few textile elements, decorative cushions on a sofa or a bedspread, for example, you can create an entirely different atmosphere that feels far more energetic, without changing the main furniture pieces.

Interior Surrounded by nature
Colour Accents
Although I am a great admirer of earthy tones, spring is the perfect moment to complement them with colours inspired by nature’s awakening. This does not mean bright or overpowering shades — in design, subtle tones tend to work far better. In March interiors, soft sage green, dusty sky blue or even a gentle hint of yellow often resonate beautifully. These colours introduce a feeling of freshness while maintaining a sense of calm and harmony. They work best as accents: in ceramic vases, artworks on the wall, or even tableware details that bring a small moment of joy to your morning coffee.
Elements of Nature
Spring interiors are difficult to imagine without a touch of life. Instead of traditional flower bouquets, I often choose sculptural branches from trees. Collected from a garden or woodland and placed in a simple vase, they slowly begin to reveal their buds. It is a living process that adds a unique sense of movement and rhythm to the home.
With nature also comes the desire for visual clarity. Over winter, we tend to accumulate small objects, so spring is the perfect time to revisit open shelves and surfaces. Keep only the items that genuinely bring you joy and store the rest away. Because a space with more “air” allows both the body and the mind to rest more easily.

Interior Playful comfort
Spring renewal is not about drastic changes. It is about noticing details and respecting the changing play of light within our homes. Therefore, I encourage you to take a moment to look at your home with fresh eyes and allow it at least a touch of the lightness that spring inevitably brings — the lightness we are all waiting for.
